Maurizio Sarri lacks important commodity as former Napoli boss attempts to find right formula quickly at Chelsea

Chelsea’s new boss Maurizio Sarri is expected to take the Premier League by storm next season with the famed Sarri-ball and with only a couple of weeks to go for the start of the Premier League, the former Napoli head coach is eager to implement his system at his new club.

Waiting to take turns when the opportunity to devour arises are Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino, who have tasted the fright and apprehension of managing in the Premier League and passed varying degrees of benchmarks.

“Five years ago I was in Italy, in Serie B,” said Sarri. “Chelsea is one of the most important clubs, in the most important championship in Europe. In the Premier League, there are all the most important coaches in Europe, maybe the world. It will be very exciting to play against [Pep] Guardiola, to play against [Mauricio] Pochettino, to play against [Jose] Mourinho, to play against [Jurgen] Klopp. I want to play at Stamford Bridge; for me it is a dream.” – Telegraph

Some may have flattered to deceive, while others continue to amaze some of the most expectant set of fans in the football world.

Sarri, if anything must deliver on the promise of bringing entertaining football to Stamford Bridge, the kind of promise the likes of Andre Villas Boas and Luis Felipe Scolari have failed to successfully introduce into the rather conservative minds at the club. They both showed bags of promise but lacked one important commodity managers aren’t afforded these days – TIME.

That’s one thing Sarri will not be promised in his long negotiations with Chelsea. They will make high demands but make it clear, time will not be on your side to deliver on those demands, if failure means only one outcome, an exit even as early as AVB and Scolari tasted.

In reality, Sarri has embraced this and insists he will not be overcome by the quick nature of the Chelsea board to sack previous managers.

In his first game as a Chelsea game, he lay the gauntlet down. Chelsea’s identity in the coming weeks were exposed for the first time, and it was very clear what to expect from his players next season. After all it’s hardly a time to experiment for the Italian boss who is reputed for his attention to detail. His philosophy that won him praise across Europe has brought him this far and he is not about to let it go.

Lots of parallel lines could be drawn from Chelsea signing of Jorginho from Napoli this summer as he is the player that made the Serie A giants click. His weaving passes and ability to pick a player from a distance makes him a sharp weapon in Sarri arsenal. Sarri deployed him in the middle of the park to orchestrate all attacks and as effective as he was, the ‘pass-master’ is already turning heads after hist first 45 minutes in the blue shirt.

Author Mark Worral praised his mastery in Chelsea midfield.

Many expected Chelsea to play entertaining football but very few would have expected the Blues to dominate a game as quickly as their first pre season friendly, just as Team FA tweeted.

Maybe, even not as quickly as Sarri would want. The demanding manager has told his players to raise their game ahead of the coming season and you get a sense, he is drilling into their minds who the boss is.

“I am satisfied by the performance in the first half and the first 15 minutes of the second half, not the last 30 minutes. We lost the distance between the defenders and the midfielders, but we know we have to work. We have to go back to Cobham and work very hard. We know we have to improve very quickly.”
