Chelsea will face Liverpool twice in the space of three days this month

Chelsea has had a kind line up of fixtures in the opening stages of this season, but all that may be about to change for Maurizio Sarri and his charges, with the Blues scheduled to now play Liverpool twice in three days in September.

The Blues were initially scheduled to play against Jurgen Klopp’s side on September 29, the first of their two Premier League clashes this season, at Stamford Bridge. But after the confirmation of the third round Carabao Cup game between the two rivals, Chelsea and Liverpool will meet in the domestic cup competition three days before the Premier League encounter.

Chelsea are hoping to secure their first Carabao Cup since 2015 when they won the trophy under Jose Mourinho alongside the Premier League, but standing in their way is the deadly attack of Liverpool, who under Klopp have become a real force to be reckoned with.

This could be a reignition of the old rivalry between the pair that saw them face off in cup games especially in the Mourinho-Rafa Benitez era where they almost always clashed in the Champions League.
