Chelsea are about to have a new captain to replace Gary Cahill, who has been captain of the Blues since the departure of John Terry in 2017.
Cahill took the mandate on a permanent status in 2017 when Antonio Conte chose him as the best candidate to replace Terry, via the Evening Standard. However, Cahill’s form for club and country has taken a downturn following poor performances last season that has seen his place in the Blues squad reduced to a bench role.
Under Antonio Conte, the former England international was overtaken by Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger. Now with Maurizio Sarri opting for a two-man central defense, Rudiger and Luiz are the favorites of the new man and still Cahill struggles to get a place in the side.
Now, the Italian coach reveals he will decide on a new captain during the international break which means most likely, Azpilicueta, Hazard or Luiz will take up the mantle:
“Nothing decided at the moment, I want to decide during the international break for the final one. I want to win everything, if I can. I want to win everything.
For me, it’s a pleasure to play in Europe. It’s a pleasure to play in the Europa League. It’s one of our targets.”
