Half a decade ago, a star was born in Merseyside, making great strides to become a regular starter at Everton and making a name for himself in English football, but after consecutive games for Chelsea this season, Ross Barkley has given a strong verdict on his last few days.
Barkley calls the last ‘ten days’ the best of his career after firstly scoring his first Chelsea goal and grabbing his first assist as well in the win over Southampton, a fortnight ago. He received a recall to the England national team only days after and wasted no time in contributing strongly in the Three Lions victory over Spain. He would also look back fondly at the last few days and excited about his goal against Manchester United that sealed the draw for the Blues.
As shown in his constant selection for Chelsea’s matchday squads, Maurizio Sarri has grown his faith in the 24-year old and Barkley’s battle with Mateo Kovacic for a spot in midfield has progressed rather well.
Barkley insists he is playing better now and feels he is maturing.
“Yeah I’d probably say so (the best ten days of my career). I got a couple of goals and couple of assists and played well for England. It just shows to myself that hard work does pay off in the end.
Getting in the England side and getting in two good positive performances there and today with my first goal at Stamford Bridge was fantastic for me. I believe that I am a better player now. I’ve matured, I understand the game much more, which can be natural as you grow up.”
