Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has tipped Marcos Alonso to become the best left full back in Europe following the brilliance the Spain international has shown in the Italian’s debut season.
The 27-year old is slowly inching closer to world-class levels after fine displays in the Chelsea shirt since signing for them in the summer of 2016. He arrived from Fiorentina without much of the fireworks that usually accompanies signings in England.
However, a couple of seasons after, Alonso is proving his worth with great goals, some quite spectacular, and also grabbing important assists. It is those impressive numbers that seem to have given him the nod over Emerson Palmieri at the club.
His defensive work has improved as well and Maurizio Sarri now thinks his left fullback can become the best in his position in Europe.
Sarri on Alonso: "I am very happy with him and for you. You know that he can be the best left back in Europe, I think he also needs to improve in the defensive phase cause he's used to playing in a five" #CFC #UEL

The former Bolton Wanderers defender was awarded a new long-term deal at Chelsea earlier on Monday to remain at the club until 2023.
