Chelsea have finally stepped up to the favorites tag in the Europa League after their convincing win over BATE Borisov on Thursday.
Yes, it may be only the first resounding win in the competition thus far, after three games, but when the Blues turn on the heat like this, it could be a while before anyone stops them. The first win over PAOK was sealed with an early goal but, that was the only thing to shout about in the entire 90 minutes in Greece; while the second win over Vidi was only secured by Alvaro Morata’s late winner.
The build-up to the game on Thursday was not the most convincing by Chelsea. The football has been great, but the results have not been the most impressive, even against minnows from Greece and Hungary. 1-0 victories are not by any stretch telling on whether a side can go all the way but the massacre of BATE could give a hint or two of how far this team can actually go in this competition.
