Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater has become a special case this season. He has failed to win a spot in Maurizio Sarri’s teams across all competitions but seems content with his fringe role and does not want to push for a move from the club, according to the Telegraph.
His role this season has been made clear by Sarri who has yet to feature the former Leicester City star in any of his Premier League and Carabao games so far. Drinkwater was not even included in the Europa League squad for the season and will not get a look-in on Thursday nights unless there is a change in mindset or a serious injury to any of the regulars by the time clubs must register a new list for the knockout stages of the competitions.
The 28-year old has started only 12 games since his arrival at the club last summer. Mainly due to niggling injuries he nursed last season, Drinkwater could barely get into Antonio Conte’s starting 11 and under Sarri, he does not even get considered for a bench role.
However, the Telegraph reports that Drinkwater is not eager to leave the Blues and would wait until the end of the season to find out his possible exit routes out of the club. In January, Chelsea may attempt to offload the midfielder, but it may be difficult to find a club who can match the current wage of the player who takes home £100,000-a-week.
