The one stat from the win over Southampton that hints at Ross Barkley becoming the next Frank Lampard

Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley may be finding his feet at his new club after rising through the ranks at Goodison Park while playing for Everton. Almost a year after signing for the London giants, the Englishman is set to unleash his best qualities on the Stamford Bridge faithful.

He has a new set of fans to wow. Barkley may have earned the tag as one of England’s best young materials in the last few years, but his stock fell last season, so much that he played only four times for Chelsea after signing for the Blues in January and also failed to make flight to Russia as part of the Three Lions squad for the World Cup 2018.

However the 24-year old has begun showing signs that he may be writing his name in the history books at Chelsea, just as his mentor Frank Lampard did in his 13 years with the Blues. Against Southampton at the St. Mary’s, Barkley produced his best performance in a Chelsea shirt but more striking, one stat drew him close to becoming the next Lampard:

Should he return from the international break in top form, Barkley might crucially make the third midfield role his own ahead of Mateo Kovacic as he steps up and fully becomes the player his talents have foreshadowed.
