Chelsea fans will be forgiven for calling for the head of Alvaro Morata after the striker’s apparent inability to find the back of the net, even against Videton in the Europa League.
On Thursday, Maurizio Sarri decided to go with Morata as head of the attack, and even made sure there was no striker on the bench to offer any pressure on his failing striker. Olivier Giroud was kept out of the 18-man squad altogether as he was rested as one of the key players who sat out this game.
So all Morata had to do was convince Chelsea fans and the technical team that he was not a finished force yet against Vidi – a team from the Hungarian first division. Instead, the Spain international reminded us he is not about to return to any prolific form that may have been witnessed even briefly in the past.
When put through on goal beautifully by Pedro, Morata stared at the ball and then at the goalkeeper who he only had to beat, before hitting a shot into the side netting to leave Stamford Bridge in complete shock. Even Giroud looked sorry for his teammate when the camera turned to him.
For the Blues fans on social media, their reaction was more of an angry one, like these few we picked up.

Alvaro Morata might as well retire at this point. The man is officially done and his confidence is forever gone. One of the worst misses you'll ever see by one of the worst big money signings in the history of the Premier League.
