Ross Barkley stepped up against Southampton and the goal and assist he got give him the right amount of confidence returning to England’s Three Lions.
Having earned a call-up by Gareth Southgate for England’s next games, Barkey reminded everyone of his brilliance and top qualities that could make him a mainstay of the Three Lions setup in the coming months.
The former Everton star made the grade this weekend, winning the ball off a Saints player and then cleverly finding Eden Hazard for the Blues’ opening goal before finding the back of the net himself in the second half to seal the win before Alvaro Morata added the icing on the cake later in the game.
Overall, it was a fine display by Barkley who is enjoying his time under Chelsea’s new Italian manager. The attacking midfielder has now played nine games in all competitions this season, after starting only twice under Antonio Conte last season to signal a good career ahead of him at Stamford Bridge.
Sarri admits the best is yet to come from his England international after recovering from his nightmare injury scare last season.
“Today he has played really well. I am really happy with him because from the beginning he has improved, day-by-day, week-by-week, match-by-match.
He had a very serious injury in the last season, now he’s improving every day but I think the best will come for him.”
