“Almost all the balls come to me” – Alvaro Morata rates Maurizio Sarri over Antonio Conte in latest frank assertion

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has sparked controversy with his latest comment on the style of new head coach Maurizio Sarri, insisting he prefers the current approach to the one the Blues played with under Antonio Conte.

Sarri’s side are unbeaten in all competitions, going 12 games in the Premier League without tasting defeat, four games in the Europa League and a further two in the Carabao Cup all without losing. The football that has accompanied this new attacking style at Stamford Bridge makes for a very interesting time ahead.

But more encouraging in the last few weeks is the form of Alvaro Morata. He struggled to find his best form under Sarri, but once he got in the groove, the Spain international has made the battle with Olivier Giroud a more straightforward one. Four goals in five games mean Morata is enjoying a good patch.

He reveals Sarri’s attacking football makes life on the pitch more enjoyable than last season’s under Conte.

“His system is perfect for me, almost all the balls come to me when I’m in front of goal, and it’s much better than when I was playing with my back to goal and had to turn around – that’s not my game.

One of the places I played best was Juventus, and there too I didn’t have to turn around, I just had to attack the space and run forward with the ball. That’s the same as now, and I’d have been able to score a few more goals if I’d been more precise.”
