“I don’t know the character of the team” – Maurizio Sarri unsure what his players are made of after humiliation at Spurs

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has lashed out at his stars for their poor display at Wembley in the 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The Blues head coach was at a loss when asked what the character of his team was after failing to respond to the threats Spurs threw at them last weekend. Chelsea had gone 12 games without a defeat in the Premier League before the loss to Mauricio Pochettino’s side, but looked like a bottom three side in that game.

That unbeaten run saw them rise very close to Manchester City and Liverpool until the last couple of games, drawing 0-0 with Everton and following it up with a loss to Spurs that has seen them fall to fourth.

Despite hoping to get an immediate reaction from his side in the games to follow, Sarri admits he struggles to identify with the character of his side after recent seasons and it’s consistencies.

“I don’t know the character of the team. I think it’s very strange. [In 2014-15] 87 points, the season after 50 points. Then 93 again, then 70.

Of course I hope for a reaction, first of all during training, and then in the next match. But I knew very well that we had problems, I knew very well that we had to work. Now everyone knows it. We have to work on all the reactions, I think.
