“No one, only my wife, knows how big the last year was” – Alvaro Morata still talking about disastrous first season in England

It’s been a very good last few days for Alvaro Morata with his new found form in front of goal and the player has already begun reminiscing about the past like it’s completely behind him.

The striker endured a torrid first year in the Premier League, failing to score goals at crucial times in the season. The former Real Madrid forward scored only one goal in the second part of the season for Chelsea, making it one of the worst runs for a striker in the famous blue shirt.

However, despite a barren run at the beginning of this campaign, Morata has sprung to life and begun looking like the player most Chelsea fans expected him to be when he was signed in the summer of 2016.

He opens up on the darkest period of his career and how he has uprooted himself from the mess. Morata reveals his mentality has changed for the better.

“In football physical condition is very important, but the head is the most important thing. If you don’t have the head, if the mentality is not good, then you are in trouble. I’m better.

No one, only my wife, knows how big the last year was. Now it’s OK. In the last month of last season I was down, down, down, down. I cannot be more down. When you touch the limit, the only thing you can do is to come back.

It takes long because I had an injury, I was not fit when playing, but now I feel good. I had a period where everything … if it was raining, I was angry because it’s raining; if I miss, it’s because the pitch is too wet. It was only excuses. It is not good.”
