One big reason to believe Chelsea are taking the EFL Cup more seriously this season

Chelsea have advanced to the semi-final stage of the EFL Cup this season courtesy a goal by Eden Hazard late in the last eight against Bournemouth.

With Chelsea well placed in the Europa League after making it into the knockout stage. Their Premier League campaign is not perfect at the moment, but a top-four place should not be too hard to achieve considering the current form and that of their competitors and with the FA Cup yet to kick off, Maurizio Sarri’s line up against Bournemouth on Wednesday gave away his intentions about the Carabao Cup.

He selected a fairly strong side against the Premier League side. Only Marco Alonso, David Luiz, Eden Hazard, Jorginho and Pedro were rested. That was five changes as against the eight he made in the previous round against Derby County.

With the League Cup considerably lying lowly on the list of priorities for the modern day top six Premier League managers, Sarri has proven as the competition progresses, he will tweak his side less to attempt lifting his first trophy on English soil.
