Chelsea fans will be excited at the prospect of seeing their new signing Gonzalo Higuain for the first time in the Premier League.
Following the signing of the Argentina international in the January transfer window, the Blues are hoping he can inject some level of confidence in the team’s attack, but after his debut performance in the FA Cup against Sheffield Wednesday last Sunday, some Blues fans are beginning to be concerned.
But that is premature. Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud have not given any evidence that Chelsea striking problems since the days of Didier Drogba can be consistently good. Diego Costa was brutish in his ways but since then, all Chelsea fans can wish for is some sort of renaissance with that problem.
Higuain can be that player. His record proves he can make it big at Stamford Bridge. On Wednesday against Southampton, Higuain will have another crack in a Chelsea shirt. After rejecting the chance to take the penalty against Sheffield, he may have waited out enough time to have elevated his confidence sufficiently for the opportunities to come.
The chances will come in a more open game, and we can all expect our new number nine to bang the goals in.
