Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri is set to raid Barcelona for top midfielder Ivan Rakitic as he seeks to replace Cesc Fabregas with the menacing Croatian.
The defensive midfielder is known for his ability to control the game and that is a key attribute Sarri looks for, to fill his deep-lying playmaker spot in his 4-3-3 system. Jorginho has come in a done a decent job since last summer, but the former Napoli midfielder looks jaded in the Chelsea team and currently gives his side more problems than solutions.
Fabregas’ departure means the Blues need to find cover for Jorginho as Sarri is still adamant N’Golo Kante cannot play in the holding midfield position. Sport in Spain says Barcelona will not be eager to sell the 31-year old they rejected a 90 million bid from PSG for.
Chelsea however, may want to look at other options with a running club policy that fails to award players over 30 years with contracts for more than one year.
