The January transfer window reveals the mess in Chelsea’s striking department

Chelsea are a club shrewd in their ways in the transfer market, usually cashing in on even mediocre players while getting top class players for decent prices.

So the signing of Alvaro Morata will have resonated in the minds of Chelsea fans. The former Real Madrid striker was expected to hit the ground running and bag the goals for the Blues but his time at Stamford Bridge has been anything but a success. Every time Chelsea fans give up on him, he gets himself a goal or two, and then runs dry for another two months without another.

Then Olivier Giroud arrived in January 2017. His arrival also signaled a change in fortunes for Chelsea’s goalscoring but his 10 goals in all competitions after 42 appearances makes him as much a failure as Morata.

For Maurizio Sarri, there was a few options available to him this winter transfer window. Chelsea’s loan army boasts Michy Batshuayi and Tammy Abraham but the Italian manager opted against returning any of them to boost his attack. He rather explores the option to bring in an entirely new player – and if the report by Calciomercato is true, it could be Gonzalo Higuain.

But his arrival signals Chelsea could move on both or one of their current forwards and reports indicate that is Morata and his possible destination is Atletico Madrid.

At the moment, its a bit of a mess in the high offices at the Bridge. No one is certain of what can really happen in the coming days and what Chelsea’s attack will look like, but hopefully, Sarri and his bosses are able to return some sense of assurance for their fans.
