There’s a really good feeling about Chelsea’s signing of Gonzalo Higuain and although there are detractors who think the Juventus striker is past it in his career, Eden Hazard is buzzing to play with the prolific goalscorer.
The Argentina international completed his six-month loan deal to Chelsea on Thursday and was present at Stamford Bridge during the Blues win over Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup. Hazard was one of the stars of the show, creating loads of chances and setting up teammates time without number. The icing on the cake for him was the goal he scored to make it 2-0 before Spurs tie equalizing goal.
With Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud failing to get goals regularly, the burden has fallen on Hazard to find the goals in recent weeks. He has failed and shone in different games but now Higuain’s arrival would ease that burden.
The 31-year old has scored in over 300 goals for club and country since turning a professional in 2007. He arrives with bags of experience and will assure goals in the coming games for the remainder of the season. Hazard says he has long waited to play with a player of similar ilk as Diego Costa.
“I like to play with top, top players. At Chelsea I was able to play with one of the best in Costa for three years. I think Higuain is one of the best at the moment. He has scored a lot of goals. When you see his career he has done it everywhere, Real Madrid, Napoli and Juventus. I think he can do the same here.
It was like that against Spurs. If we had a striker that could score three goals, the game would have finished 5-1. But that hasn’t been the case. Higuain can do that. He is a top scorer, he can score anywhere. Have we missed a striker like Costa since he left? Yes of course. I like playing with Giroud and Morata, but when Olivier is playing he is doing his best for the side, he is more of a team player than a striker that just scores goals.”

It will be interesting to know what Morata and Giroud think of this comment by Hazard before they all go their separate ways out of Stamford Bridge in the coming transfer windows.
