Lyon President admits interest in making move for struggling Chelsea attacker

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud will certainly be the subject of transfer talk next summer when his contract ends with the Blues.

The Frenchman is considering his options at the moment and knows he will not play a significant part for Chelsea in the long term. The player has not been able to nail down a starting berth at Chelsea, even when Alvaro Morata seemed unable to bang in the goals. The former Arsenal hitman has scored only ten since making his debut for Chelsea in January 2018.

Now that Gonzalo Higuain has arrived, Maurizio Sarri is likely to give the Argentina international more game time and that will increase the likelihood that the 32-year old will leave Stamford Bridge when his current deal expires in June.

When quizzed about a possible interest in Giroud, Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas admits he has held a long-term admiration for the striker and hopes to sign him next summer:

“I dreamed of bringing him in last summer and I even called Arsene Wenger to get his opinion, someone like Gerard Houllier knows him well too. We had discussions when I was in Moscow with the French national team during the World Cup.

Things were not possible, on his side. Today we have an attack that is well stocked. If someone in the front left, then a deal could interest us, especially because he has a different profile compared to our players.”
