Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud made comments before the club signed Gonzalo Higuain a few days ago, that tells where his mind is at this moment.
The World Cup winner with France was hoping to steal the spot as the lead striker ahead of Alvaro Morata when he signed for the Blues in the winter transfer window in 2018 but his fortunes have changed since then. Having scored only 10 goals since making his debut 13 months ago. In 45 appearances in all competitions, Giroud has struggled to show his once feared prolific abilities in front of goal.
When the transfer window opened again this month, Chelsea signed Higuain to replace Morata and it seems Giroud might have to look elsewhere for a longterm stay at a club. The 32-year old acknowledges this and says the arrival of the Argentina international darkens his future at Stamford Bridge.
“The coach makes [Eden] Hazard play nine which is detrimental to strikers. But he is the best player I’ve ever played with. If the club decides to get another striker, like Higuain, it will certainly darken my future at Chelsea.
I’ve never said ‘no’ to a return to France. Lyon and Marseille are two great clubs. My priority is to stay in the Premier League, though.”

Giroud had already lost his place in the starting 11 to Eden Hazard who Sarri deployed in a false nine role.
