Chelsea insiders ‘surprised’ by Maurizio Sarri’s treatment of Gary Cahill

Chelsea captain Gary Cahill is currently not only on the fringes of the Blues first-team squad but also feels he is not being treated fairly by Maurizio Sarri, with the head coach barely speaking to the defender since his arrival last summer.

The former Bolton central defender is not by any means the player he was when Chelsea signed him in 2012 for only £7 million. He has since become an integral part of the playing staff until Sarri’s arrival. Cahill has not started any Premier League games under Sarri and is barely considered for cup games.

Last Thursday, he was left out of the entire squad that traveled to face Malmo in Sweden, and according to the Telegraph, the long-serving staff at the club are not dismayed by his treatment by the Italian manager.

Sarri has not stripped him of his captaincy, despite Cahill not being part of his weekly plans and having less than six months left on his current deal. Cahill has continued to play his part in the overall squad per the report, appearing at every training session and doing exactly as told until his contract expires in the summer.

If Sarri continues like this, another one of the players directly connected to the Chelsea fans will leave next summer disassociated from the club in different measures.
