Maurizio Sarri is on thin ice now after his Chelsea side lost miserably in the last few weeks, culminating in the FA Cup exit to Manchester United last Monday.
The Blues had previously suffered an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth before taking a lashing at the Etihad Stadium in the 6-0 drubbing by Manchester City. Now faced with the task of advancing into the last sixteen of the Europa League, Maurizio Sarri has the unenviable job to convince fans that he is the right man for the position in the dugout.
His own fans turned on him in the loss to Man United, with some chanting ‘f*** Sarriball’, and although he was adamant he didn’t care about them more than the poor results, he could be digging his own grave at Stamford Bridge if his style does not churn out good results.
To win over the demanding fans, he must introduce Callum Hudson-Odoi to the first team and not look back. He is still learning as an 18-year old, but in simple terms, if he’s not given the chance consecutively, he won’t improve massively.
Also, Sarri has to pull a surprise on Malmo with his tactics. Too many times this season, the Italian manager has gone with the predictable 4-3-3 formation and kept faith with players clearly out of form. A few tweaks, especially in his substitutions and in the entire system might work wonders for him in winning back his fans.
David, a Chelsea fan on Twitter, comedically tells the tale of Sarri’s repeated substitutions.
If Sarri had a 4th sub he'd sub Kovacic back on for Barkley
