Maurizio Sarri will not reveal when Kepa will start next

Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri has revealed who between Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero will be his side’s number one goalkeeper in the weeks remaining in the season.

Kepa was strongly spoken against by former Chelsea players, pundits, and fans for his distasteful attitude to Sarri in the Blues Carabao final defeat to Manchester City. The goalkeeper waved off a substitution by Sarri late in that game when the Italian manager decided to bring on Caballero a few minutes before the penalty shootout.

The 24-year old was fined one-week’s wages by Chelsea on Monday and on Wednesday, Sarri left him out of the starting line up against Tottenham in the Premier League win at Stamford Bridge.

That’s enough punishment, according to Sarri. When quizzed following the game in mid-week, Sarri says the former Athletic Bilbao shot-stopper would be back soon, but he hadn’t yet decided whether it would this this Sunday when we face Fulham or not.

“I think it was the right decision. Kepa made a big mistake. He paid with the club. Then he had to pay with the team. But now I think we have to stop. Kepa, from tomorrow, will be with us.

I don’t know if he will be on the pitch in the next match [against Fulham] or not, but in one of the next two, for sure. We cannot kill him. When you are young, I think you can make mistakes. The most important thing is that you need to understand very well, after every mistake. So now, for me, the issue is closed.”
