Only one trophy remaining to win, Maurizio Sarri has held showdown talks with Chelsea’s board

Like a fast blowing wind, Maurizio Sarri entered the Premier League and quickly laid bare how he thought football must be played. The style won Chelsea games and although in some of them his players looked out of place and could have lost, they didn’t.

They pushed on and went unbeaten in all competitions until late Autumn. The 3-1 loss to Tottenham was only the beginning of the dark times. In between the November 24 defeat and the comedy show at Wembley last Sunday when Kepa Arrizabalaga waved off Sarri’s substitution against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final, the Blues have blown alarmingly hot and cold.

Five more defeats in the English top flight and a few draws have swept Chelsea down to sixth in the standings and the loss to Man United at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup fifth round have culminated in the talk that the famed ‘Sarriball’ could be coming to an abrupt end in England.

The Sun claims Chelsea’s board were scheduled to meet with Sarri on Tuesday to discuss the manager’s future and the Kepa saga.

The Blues prepare to play Tottenham on Wednesday and are hoping a win will keep them in the race for the top four this season. Having advanced into the Europa League to the round of 16, it is their only real chance of winning silverware this season and Sarri must prove his worth to this Chelsea top hierarchy or face the sack.
