Sarri’s huge claim to Chelsea fans exposed as a lie in just over a month

As the January transfer window opened, Bayern Munich began their assault on Chelsea to try and prise away Callum Hudson-Odoi.

As the number of zeroes on their bids for the wonderkid grew, so did the number of press conferences from various German suits talking up his skills.

From our side there wasn’t much of a reaction to the PR campaign, save a few comments from Maurizio Sarri.

One of these, which you can see below, came on the 7th of January, when Sarri asserted after an impressive run of cameo showings from the kid that he was “ready” to play in big games, and was “on the same level” as Pedro and Willian in the race for playing time.

Sadly that hasn’t been the case… at all. In fact he hasn’t started a single one of the 5 Premier League games since, and has actually seen his playing time fall off as the arrival of Gonzalo Higuain pushed Eden Hazard back to the left wing, and meant Callum was now competing competing with Pedro and Willian for just one first team slot.

Overall, the fear we felt when Bayern first approached has been replaced with just a sadness that, despite the promises, Callum will probably go this summer anyway, without having even been given a proper shot.
