Maurizio Sarri must find it difficult to put a smile on his face while stuck under the grey clouds which hover over Cobham – no wonder he smokes like a chimney.
Sarri has overseen a squad this season which has failed to live up to their respective reputations. As a result, Chelsea have faltered. We find ourselves in sixth.
With a transfer ban set to come into effect in the summertime, there will be no opportunity for an overhaul, which is hugely concerning.
That’s not only due to the huge amount of dross which has dragged our squad down this season, but also because many of them are heading over the hill.

You could be forgiven for thinking that we ought to be excelling, with our average age sitting around the peak years of a football. Yet, we’re not, far from it.

Instead, we have a group of players who are unable to produce the standard of performances that is expected, who are soon going to be declining.
And the best part? We can’t even replace them. What a sorry state of affairs.
This ought to be at the forefront of our board’s minds. We ought to begin the process of phasing out the older players immediately.
We have a wealth of young talent on our books for virtually every position. We have to use them, or face the possibility of falling even further from our rivals.
