“I am very happy there” – FIFA transfer ban on Chelsea strengthens forward’s position at club

Chelsea are looking forward to a successful appeal at FIFA after the governing body of football placed a ban on the club from signing players next summer.

The situation the club finds itself in means several of their stars can be assured of not being sold at the end of the season. There are those who are praying the club can do business again, so they are allowed to move to join their dream clubs or get sufficient minutes. But there are also those who could take the opportunity to convince the club’s decision-makers of their worth, and Giroud belongs to the latter bracket.

The French striker is in fine form these last few weeks, scoring a hattrick in Chelsea’s massive win over Dynamo Kiev in the Europa League before scoring in two successive games for France in the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

His form hints there could be a battle for the starting role with current favorite Gonzalo Higuain but most importantly, Giroud hopes his contract situation is resolved.

“At the club we still need to wait to see regarding if we will have the opportunity to get some players [in the next transfer windows]. If not the club will be blocked and maybe then they will need me more and to offer me something. I am very happy there, but it all depends on a few things so we will see.

The French media have made too much of some comments from me trying to push me into a move to Lyon. I am staying objective, and if I can stay at Chelsea I will be happy – but I need to play more.”
