Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta has sung the praises of teammate Ruben Loftus-Cheek during an interview with the club’s official website.
Azpilicueta may not have officially been handed the captaincy, but Gary Cahill has been completely frozen out under Maurizio Sarri, with Azpi donning the armband all season.
The Spaniard has not hid away from speaking publicly about current affairs at Chelsea this season. Much of what he has had to comment on has been negative, but he’s faced up to it, to his credit.
He’ll be thankful that what he has been discussing with Chelsea’s media team this time was considerably brighter. Azpi piled the praise on Loftus-Cheek, who scored a beauty against Brighton.

He’s quoted by the Chelsea official website saying:
“He’s understanding the game better, when he has to drive with the ball, and he has unbelievable strength. He can push past defenders, get in the box, score goals, and he defends. He is a complete player”
Loftus-Cheek impressed at Crystal Palace last term, but he remained very raw. He has ironed out many of the creases in his game under the stewardship of Sarri this season.
He’s ready to nail down a spot in the starting eleven, and not even Sarri’s reluctance to use our younger players can prevent him from doing so. He’s just too good.
