Chelsea and Arsenal set to lock horns in launching summer transfer raid on PSG

Chelsea are set to battle rivals Arsenal for the signature of Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier, according to reliable French outlet RMC Sport.

Meunier has had spells in the PSG starting eleven, but contesting the world’s most decorated player, Dani Alves, for game-time has proven to be a tough task.

That’s not a fair reflection of his quality – not at all – Meunier is one of the best right-backs in Europe. It’s for that reason that he needs to depart the Parc des Princes.

RMC Sport believe that he may well do so this coming summer in search of regular game-time. Two teams from the Premier League are thought to be keen.

Arsenal are linked, though Spaniard Hector Bellerin is surely the long-term solution on the right side of their defensive line.

Chelsea have also been mentioned as a potential suitor by RMC Sport, which would make sense considering Cesar Azpilicueta’s recent downturn in form.

However, with Reece James coming through, Meunier would only further complicate his route into the starting eleven, which is why it’s a transfer we ought to pass up.

Not every top player that becomes available ought to be considered a target. Plan A should always be to work with what you’ve got – and we’ve got a gem in James.
