French newspaper L’Equipe have given an update on the future of Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir, with the information translated and published by GFFN.
It’s somewhat of a surprise that Fekir is still at Lyon. No disrespect to the Ligue 1 giants, but they have little business keeping hold of a player with the Frenchman’s ability.
Fekir deserves to be challenging for league titles and the Champions League, not tussling with St-Étienne for a third-place finish in the least competitive of Europe’s top five divisions.
This summer looks as though it’ll (finally) be the time for the 25-year-old to move on. GFFN’s report mentions a gentleman’s agreement with Lyon to allow him to depart.
As noted in the report, Fekir will have just a year left to run on his contract come the summer. Any interested suitors will have a chance of signing him without great difficulty.

Why can’t it be Chelsea?
The Daily Mail reported that we were considering going in for Fekir back in January, but the move never came to fruition. Could it this summer?
If Chelsea’s transfer ban is suspended pending appeal, just as it was for Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, we absolutely ought to go in for Fekir.
We have struggled at times this season solving the discord between midfield and attack, particularly when faced by a low block – just as we did on Monday night.
Fekir could be the solution to our problems in that respect and would presumably be able to be acquired for an affordable figure. What’s not to like?
