Cesar Azpilicueta has sung the praises of Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has had a stellar debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.
As much as none of us like to admit it, Thibaut Courtois is one of the best goalkeepers on the planet. Replacing him looked to be an impossible task.
Chelsea did the unthinkable and broke the transfer record fee for a goalkeeper in recruiting Arrizabalaga, who had impressed at Athletic Bilbao.
We had our reservations at first, with David De Gea enduring a period of transition upon his arrival at Manchester United. However, Kepa fast proved his competency.
We have filled our goalkeeper position for a decade, if he’s willing, which is incredibly reassuring in the midst of a period of uncertainty at this club.

We’re not the only ones who have been impressed with Kepa’s performances, either. His teammate, Cesar Azpilicueta, appears to hold him in high regard.
Azpi is quoted by Standard Sport saying:
“The important thing about Kepa is that this is his first year in England. It is his first season at Chelsea.”
“Sometimes it has been frustrating for him because when the one chance arrives [for opponents] he can’t do anything to stop the goal. But against Slavia he had more of a job to do and he did very well. He kept a very good clean sheet — that is three in a row. That is very important for us to be solid.”
Let’s hope that Kepa will record his 13th Premier League clean sheet of the campaign tomorrow afternoon. If he’s able, there’ll be tears flowing in Liverpool.
