Maurizio Sarri has admitted the only way to please his demanding fans at Chelsea is to win silverware this season.
The Blues have largely underperformed in most of their games this season despite taking a lion’s share of the possession since Sarri took over. The Blues have been dominant in even the matches they have lost this season attracting the ‘boring’ tag from pundits. The results have left the fans scratching their heads for answers about how they will win trophies, playing the way they play now.
Sarri’s system means Chelsea keep the ball a lot more but are more ineffective further up the field. The Europa League is the only trophy the Premier League giants can win this season following exit from the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and drop in the race for the League title.
Blues fans have also clearly expressed their displeasure at Chelsea’s style under the Italian coach, calling for his head and shouting ‘F*** Sarriball” during games. Sarri says he the angry fans need a trophy to calm them down.
“I know only one way (of satisfying supporters)—we have to win matches. We have to try to win a trophy. I know only this way.
I think that, in the future, we will be able to fight for the top. At the moment, we are not playing our football very well. We need to improve playing our way of football. So we are trying to do this, but it’s not easy.
It’s not easy, especially in the first season because we started to work only in the middle of July. At the beginning of August, we played the first official match.”
