‘I think he will remain’ – Maurizio Sarri confident this Chelsea player is going nowhere

Maurizio Sarri has revealed his belief that Olivier Giroud will stay at Chelsea beyond the end of the season.

Giroud has proven to be a useful asset for Chelsea, particularly in the Europa League. There’s scarcely a more effective backup striker in the Premier League.

However, with Giroud’s contract set to expire in the summertime, speculation surrounding his future has intensified. Sarri, though, is confident he will remain a Chelsea player.

Sarri is quoted by Goal claiming that the option Chelsea have to extend Giroud’s contract leaves it looking likely that he won’t be going anywhere:

“Yes, of course. I know the club have an option for another season, so I think he will remain. I think so [that he wants to stay].”

With Michy Batshuayi and Tammy Abraham out on loan, losing Giroud certainly wouldn’t be the end of the world. However, if the Frenchman is willing to stay, we ought to grant his wish.

Giroud has a unique ability to bring the best out of those around him. He’s selfless, yet also lethal himself in front of goal. He’s an asset which we’d be mad not to keep hold of.
