Experience tells us not to strongly believe the words of a coach ahead of games, but there’s a pinch of truth in what Maurizio Sarri said in the build-up to Chelsea’s clash with Brighton and Hove Albion.
Sarri’s comments about Callum Hudson-Odoi has spread so wildly, many are buying into it. The head coach hinted that his 18-year old burgeoning star will likely start against Brighton. Hudson-Odoi will get a first start in the Premier League if Sarri fulfills the faint promise of playing him from the start.
He has shone for both club and country since his emergence at the beginning of the season, having played twice for the England senior team – making one start – and producing spectacular performances for Chelsea in the games he has featured in.
Cezar Azplilicueta thinks that form will be crucial for the Blues in the remaining games of the season as they battle to make the top four and also win the Europa League.
“I have no doubt he can make an impact in the Premier League. I knew him when he was a kid [in the academy]. To see what he is doing now is amazing. Can he help us in the run-in? Yes, yes, yes.
I saw him with England, it was a great performance. To show this ability for someone who is 18 is special.â€
