“We are not doing so badly” – Maurizio Sarri reveals misleading stats that puts Chelsea second behind Man City

Maurizio Sarri is not a popular figure at Stamford Bridge, that much is well documented due to his decisions on and off the pitch and his latest comments will not do him any favors.

The Blues are enduring a torrid season under the Italian coach, whose leadership has led them to an exit in the FA Cup fifth round and a defeat to Man City in the Carabao Cup final. The Europa League is the only possible silverware opportunity now for this campaign, with the Blues lying a distant sixth in the Premier League.

It has become a hunt for top four places in the English top flight for Chelsea whose numbers are generally poor. Several defeats and draws have clouded the little success Sarri chalked up in his maiden season at the Bridge,  but he sees things differently.

The former Napoli head coach says his Chelsea side are second only to Man City in terms of wins in all competitions, and perhaps the media and fans can look at things from that perspective.

On the other hand, given we’ve played more games than anyone else, wouldn’t you expect that? And given there were 6 in the Europa League group stage against minnows, it’s not a very impressive number.

“In the end, we are not doing so badly. During this season, we have won 33 matches. In England, only Manchester City did better than us.

Of course, we know very well we need to improve our performances. But we have the chance to take our target. We can arrive at the end of the season in the top four. We can try to take the final in the Europa League. And so, at the end, our season can become a very good season.”
