Olivier Giroud has condemned the alleged racist chants sung by Chelsea fans in Prague during a post-match interview with Sky Sports.
This is a topic we have been forced to discuss all too often at this football club. There are members of our fanbase who continually disgrace the rest of us, who are wholeheartedly respectful and welcoming.
We absolutely condemn racism in any form, as do the club and the larger organisations we are a part of. These individuals have no place at Chelsea, or anywhere in football, and that’s being made crystal clear.
Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has reaffirmed that for those who needed reminding. Speaking to Sky Sports following our 1-0 victory over Slavia Prague, he said:
“I think these people shouldn’t belong to Chelsea.”
“I think the club and everybody condemns these kind of things, and we are 100 per cent behind Mo Salah.”
Giroud trains alongside players of different ethnicities and religions. To think that ‘fans’ who cheer him on week-in, week-out are being indirectly disrespectful to his teammates must be hard to accept.
High-profile figures such as himself coming out and condemning such behaviour is a step in the right direction, no doubt, but it’s not enough to prevent this incident from reoccuring.

This particular incident, relating to Mohamed Salah, is particularly disturbing. He’s a former player of ours, which rivalry aside ought to earn him a certain degree of respect.
Not to mention that we have a muslim starting for us on a weekly basis in N’Golo Kante. You’re disrespecting him and his faith just as much as you are Salah’s.
We hope that this will be the last we hear of racist behaviour from Chelsea supporters this season, but we fear that it’s only a matter of time before it happens again.
