Questions remain as to whether Mateo Kovacic is worth purchasing on a permanent basis. He is yet to live up to what was expected of him.
The Croatia star was once of the most coveted midfielders in Europe and arrived in London with intentions of proving his doubters at Real Madrid wrong, but his almost half-century appearances in Chelsea colors will struggle to convince anyone.
He has been a regular starter at the club and seems a trustee of Maurizio Sarri – but has he paid the Italian manager back with the incisiveness needed?
The answer is not clear, he simply divides opinion. He is a hard worker whose best position in midfield is still unknown. He cannot defend as well as Kante and does not have the attacking numbers to back his forays further up the pitch.

As per Transfermarkt, Kovacic has no goals this season in all competitions and has registered only two assists, 11 fewer than the combined assists by Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley, the other midfielders competing for the third midfield spot.
He needs to show a bit more urgency up front and create considerably more chances or his days at Chelsea will be forgotten just as quickly as he arrived from Real last summer.
What do you think, Blues? Would he be worth purchasing, or should we invest the money elsewhere?
Decision time is fast approaching, so he ought to get a move on if he’s hoping to impress…
