Arsenal aim move at loaned Chelsea defender to beef up back line

Arsenal have lined up Chelsea central defender Kurt Zouma as their main defensive target ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Gunners’ manager Unai Emery had reportedly told his superiors to find him a top-class defender and according to the Sun, Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire of Leicester City and Getafe’s Djene Dakonam are all included in a list provided by the former Sevilla tactician.

He prefers Zouma though, for his strength and imposing presence at the back to beef up their defense next season. Emery wants to clear out the deadwood in his team and the list includes some top names. Shkodran Mustafi has struggled under the new manager this season and could exit as well, with Aaron Ramsey already off to Juventus.

The report also says Emery has been warned, all he can utilize in the transfer window is £40 million. Zouma would command at vert least half of the budget allocation available at Arsenal, and in any case it would be a real surprise to see Chelsea budge and allow one of their bright prospects to leave.
