Chelsea are likely to see more of Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the first team barring any long term injuries after his breakthrough into the team this campaign; however, he wants more success and has chosen to emulate former captain John Terry.
Terry had a very successful career at Stamford Bridge, winning 15 major trophies during his time in the blue shirt. When it was time for Terry to leave the club he had played for almost 20 years, and Loftus-Cheek was one of the youngsters being promoted to the first team.
A loan spell at Crystal Palace helped his development and after returning to the London giants, the 22-year old has looked a better player. His impact on the team is more telling in the competitions he has played in. He has 10 goals in total this season and the signs are that he will go on to have a great career as an attacking midfielder for the club.
Loftus-Cheek says Terry who made 717 appearances for Chelsea, is the ideal role model for him.
“Yeah definitely, but I think that comes with a lot of experience. I don’t think Chelsea can ever replace John [Terry]. He was the best leader I’ve seen, not just on the pitch but off it.
He was always organising and sorting stuff out to make it easier for us. On the pitch he was very vocal and was that character you have at the back who would organise and make you feel safe. I’ve observed that and felt that feeling, and that’s something that comes with experience. The more experience I get, then hopefully I can be that person.”
