Chelsea are the sole club to show an interest in signing Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho, according to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.
Coutinho was once one of the stars of the Premier League. It was his superb performances for Liverpool which earned him a transfer to Barcelona in the first place.
Despite the fact the Brazilian has been unable to produce his best performance level at the Nou Camp, he’s still a long way from being considered a lost cause.
That appears to be the opinion held by Chelsea, who as per Cadena Ser, have responded in a positive manner when approached by a Barca intermediary whose responsibility is to cash-in on Coutinho.
We are the only club to do so, the report claims, which is evidence of how far Coutinho’s stock has fallen in the football world. It could also help us land him on the cheap, though.
Whether Coutinho’s role at Chelsea would be to replace Eden Hazard’s influence out wide, or provide creativity to our midfield, is unclear, but he’s a great player and we could do far worse.
Now we just have to figure out if we can actually make transfers this summer…
