Chelsea will play at least the next two games without Gary Cahill playing any part in the squad after Maurizio Sarri confirmed the club captain is ruled out for almost a week.
The former England international has not featured for Sarri’s side this season, but even on the fringes of the squad, Cahill has picked up a problem in his Achilles tendon and is set to miss a number of days.
He was expected to come in to replace Andreas Christensen on the bench after the young Dane jumped up in the pecking order to play alongside David Luiz in the middle of the four-man defense.

Sarri says those expectations must be lowered because the soon to depart defender is not in his plans for the ‘moment’.
“Cahill is out… it’s a problem with the Achilles tendon. He is out for the moment. I hope to have him back in one week. ‘But he is out so we are in trouble with the centre-backs. In training we played with [Cesar] Azpilicueta at centre-back, in case as he is the only one who can play there.
It is normal it can happen. We have had a lot of games and been unlucky with injuries. Worried? A little. Rudi is out for at least three months, I spoke to him and he is disappointed.”

Rudiger will not be seen anymore in the blue shirt this season after picking up a knee injury in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United last weekend. Now Cahill joins the list of players being attended to by club physios.
