Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen has revealed that he no longer has any doubts over his future at Stamford Bridge.
It’s understandable that Christensen became a little disgruntled while he struggled to break into the starting eleven under Maurizio Sarri.
Sarri had decided on the David Luiz-Antonio Rudiger partnership early on and showed little willingness to change and experiment with the pairing.
As a result, Christensen had to remain patiently on the bench for opportunities to come his way, which they did, inadvertently.
With Rudiger suffering a knee injury which ruled him out for the season, Christensen stepped up to the mark for the Blues.
The Dane looked confident and assured during our Europa League final win over Arsenal, reaffirming to the world what a good player he is.
Whether it be the flurry of appearances he made at the end of the season, or there were other contributing factors, he’s now happy to stay.
Christensen revealed this during an interview with Jyllands-Posten (translated by WAGNH):
“I’m not wondering about my future now, and I haven’t done that for some time. I’m happy to be in London, and with the way the season has evolved, there’s no reason to think about it anymore.”
“I played two seasons in the Bundesliga and a season stuck in Chelsea, and after all, I’m only 23 years old, so it’s probably very wise to stay. It’s nice that there is peace and quiet, and I can concentrate on playing football.”
“I have always been happy, but there have been times when I wanted to play the game more. If I can play as much in the future as I have done in the spring, then that’s fine…”
If Sarri does leave the club this summer, Christensen needs a manager who rates him highly to come through the door. Could it be Frank Lampard…?
