“I hope I can stay” – Chelsea attacker swings door open for contract extension

Chelsea winger Pedro has suggested to Spanish outlet RTVC that he would be willing to extend his stay with the Blues beyond next summer.

Pedro has been a prominent figure at Stamford Bridge ever since his arrival from Barcelona, yet rarely through his time here could you have considered him a sure starter.

The Spaniard has been rotated with Willian at right-wing, but provides a more direct and productive alternative on the right to his Chelsea attacking counterpart.

Both the players’ contracts are due to expire next summer, which is concerning from a Chelsea perspective, with the squad at risk of looking thin on options in attack.

However, if Chelsea are willing, Pedro has swung open the door for the club to extend his contract and thus his stay at Stamford Bridge, as he revealed to RTVC:

“I’ve got one year left on my contract at Chelsea and I hope I can stay there as long as possible. There’s the possibility of playing in the Champions League once again.”

Whether or not he gets a new deal ought to be determined by his performances this season. If he’s used frequently by Frank Lampard, giving him another year wouldn’t hurt.
