Forgotten Chelsea centre-back named in AFCON team of the round

Chelsea centre-back Kenneth Omeruo has been named in the WhoScored African Cup of Nations team of the round, having netted for Nigeria against Guinea.

The 25-year-old has been shipped out on loan all over the place during his time as a Chelsea player, but is yet to make an official senior appearance for the Blues.

While he may not get a look in at Stamford Bridge, Omeruo is doing well for himself elsewhere. In fact, this has been a momentous week for him on a personal level.

Omeruo not only became Chelsea’s longest-serving loanee, but he also scored his very first goal for his country during their AFCON campaign.

As a result, Omeruo has been named in WhoScored’s team of the round, with only Kenya’s Michael Olunga being given a higher rating than the Chelsea defender.

His future will likely be resolved after AFCON, with the final decision down to our new manager to make. Let’s wait and see what Frankie wants…
