Clearest indication yet that Chelsea-linked Frank Lampard could be moving this summer

Derby County are in the hunt for a replacement for Frank Lampard, who could be on his way to Chelsea this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Speculation linking Lampard with a romantic return to Stamford Bridge refuses to go away. He appears to now be the frontrunner to replace Maurizio Sarri.

This news must’ve filtered down to Derby, as they have already began their efforts to recruit Lampard’s successor, or so the Daily Mail report.

Lee Bowyer is thought to be top of the list, with his Charlton Athletic side securing promotion to the Championship via the play-offs.

Derby could just being proactive in preparing contingency plans, or there may be a genuine belief that Lampard is headed back to Stamford Bridge.

Whichever theory you buy into, there’s no denying that their willingness to explore the possibility of appointing a different manager raises doubts over Lamps’ future.

Will he be Chelsea bound? We’ll have to wait and see.
