Premier League side in talks to sign former Chelsea forward, Blues had buyback option

Everton are in talks to sign former Chelsea forward Bertrand Traore from Lyon, according to French publication Telefoot.

The Daily Mail reported when Traore’s permanent exit from Chelsea was confirmed that the club had negotiated a buy-back clause with Lyon.

That would essentially give us first refusal if the Ligue 1 outfit ever came to cashing in on the Burkina Faso international, as they now appear set to do.

Telefoot believe that talks are ongoing between Everton and Lyon to bring Traore back to the Premier League, but Chelsea’s hands are tied.

With the transfer ban in force, Chelsea are unable to challenge Everton for Traore’s signature, essentially giving them a free run at the 23-year-old.

Whether we would be keen on bringing him back is unclear, but there’s no doubting that the club would rather have had the option to do so.

Either way, if he does sign for Everton and impresses at Goodison, the door will never fully be closed. He’d always be welcomed back with open arms.
