Chelsea legend expected to be confirmed as clubs new manager this coming week

Frank Lampard is expected to be confirmed as Chelsea’s new manager this coming week, according to information provided by ESPN.

When news filtered through that Maurizio Sarri had called time on his Chelsea career in search of greener pastures in Turin, we all wondered who could possibly replace him.

Chelsea have exhausted many of their options over the years, with Massimiliano Allegri the only manager available who could be considered genuinely ‘top tier’.

As a result, Chelsea have opted for a wildcard in Frank Lampard.

ESPN report that the deal to take the club’s record goal scorer back to Cobham is all but done, and could be confirmed at some point in the coming week.

That would allow Lampard to have sufficient time to prepare his plans for pre-season and beyond, which Sarri did not have when he was appointed last July.

It’s going to be an emotional moment when Lampard’s return becomes official. It really now does feel like it’s merely a matter of time.
