Chelsea’s chances of appointing club legend as manager damaged by the man himself

The Italian media have poured cold water over speculation linking Frank Lampard with a sensational return to Chelsea as Maurizio Sarri’s replacement.

Sky Sports reported on Monday that Sarri is expecting Chelsea to give him the green light to become the new manager of Juventus this summer.

If Sarri were to depart, Chelsea would no doubt be hoping to get a replacement through the door before the start of our pre-season campaign.

One of the easiest to acquire would surely be Lampard, even with two years remaining on his contract with Derby County.

You’d think that Lampard would jump at the chance to manage Chelsea, with Derby powerless to resist the financial power we possess.

Think again.

It’s been claimed by Il Corriere dello Sport that Lampard will only take the Chelsea job if he feels ready. There’s no guarantees.

Their belief is that Lampard is unsure whether he’s had enough time in management to lead Chelsea into a prosperous future, which could scupper our chances of landing him.

If not Lampard – then who?
