‘The call of home is strong’ – New Maurizio Sarri interview outlines reasons behind Italy return

Maurizio Sarri has done an interview with Vanity Fair, during which he all but confirmed his desire to become the new Juventus manager.

Sarri’s time as Chelsea manager appears to be coming a close, which is a shame, but we can’t stop him leaving if it’s truly his wish.

What he told Vanity Fair also suggests that his reasons for departing are mostly personal, which we just can’t hold against him.

Sarri is a 60-year-old man who has only ever worked in Italy during his managerial career. We can forgive him for being homesick.

When quizzed on the Juventus speculation by Vanity Fair, he also revealed how he feels distanced from his ageing parents:

“For us Italians the call of home is strong. I feel that something is missing. It has been a heavy year. I begin to feel the weight of distant friends, elderly parents I rarely see.”

Irrespective of whether you are a fan of Sarri’s methods, from a human perspective you can surely understand his desire to go home.

West London was never particularly welcoming to our manager, while Italy is home. If he returns this summer, there’ll be no hard feelings.
