The Times report that Maurizio Sarri is poised to leave Chelsea, but the Italian could have lost his job back in February had it not been for one victory.
While many Chelsea fans will be disappointed to see Sarri depart after he secured us a third-place finish and won the Europa League, let’s not forget how bad we were at times this season.
Chelsea were so unconvincing after the turn of the year, especially in wake of heavy defeats to Bournemouth and Manchester City, that the club were set to sack Sarri.
That’s what’s reported by the Times, who claim that he would have been dismissed and a caretaker appointed had Chelsea not beaten Tottenham 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
As per the report, that was the victory which essentially saved Sarri’s job – only for him to walk out the door of his own accord just months after the club changed their minds!
